Old Dude

It's not official YET but, as soon as get the registration in the mail, I will be signed up for my very first 5K race.  It is called the "MansField of Dreams 5K" and is held locally.

If you do the math 5 Kilometers equals 3.1 miles.  Not a marathon, but it's a long distance when you're an Old Dude like me.  But wait, here's the best part.  While filling out the registration form I discover that I am in the 50+ category.  Do you hear that?  Fifty-Plus!  You know what that means?  I have a chance to win!  I will be racing against a herd of 70 year-old with walkers.

49 may be the end of youth but 50 is the youth of old age.  It is all about perspective.

But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

  3. Where is a Starbuck's? I think I know....
    There's one in the village....I do think so;
    No one will see me stopping there,
    My little horse must think it queer for me to order a cold coffee on such a night as this....
    He gives the harness bells a shake
    to ask if there is some mistake.
    The coffee is lovely dark and deep
    But I know
    he won't make a peep.

  4. That's great, Brother! I am proud of you to attempt such a feat in your youth of old age. I "use to" run those 5K's and 10K's every Fall and Spring back before I went to Bible College. I loved it! My dream was always to run a marathon or triathlon. It is never too late! May just do one on my next furlough. But I will have tough competition: the 40-49 Master's Class.
